Its main armament is a 90 mm M3 gun, mounted in a new open turret on the hull of the M10 Wolverine – based on the chassis of the M4 Sherman. A total of 2.324 units were built: 1.413 M36, 187 M36B1 and 724 M36B2. The M36 entered service in Europe from October 1944 and proved to be one of the most effective American tank destroyers of the war.
