It was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, with the internal steel structure by Gustave Eiffel. The figure is 46 meters high; including the pedestal, the total monument measures 93 meters. In her raised right hand, she holds a torch, and in her left, a tablet. The greenish patina resulted from the natural oxidation of the copper over decades.
