The Original – the Dongfeng DF4B

The Dongfeng DF4 (東風4, "East Wind 4") is one of the most significant diesel locomotive series of the Chinese railway. It was developed and produced from the 1970s onwards by the Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Company and is one of China's most widely built diesel locomotives. The DF4B is an improved version with increased power and was used in large numbers for freight and passenger transport. The series shaped decades of Chinese railway operations before the network's electrification progressed. It is recognizable by its characteristic green livery, distinctive cab, and compact, robust design. Thousands of units are still in service today or preserved in museums.
