The Original – the Dongfeng-21D Missile System

The Dongfeng-21D (DF-21D), known as 东风-21D in Chinese, is a land-based intermediate-range ballistic missile of China's People's Liberation Army. It is considered an anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) and was specifically developed to strike enemy warships – particularly aircraft carriers – on the high seas. With an estimated range of over 1,500 kilometers, it can attack targets in the western Pacific. The DF-21D is transported on a multi-axle TEL vehicle that can move the missile into an upright launch position. The system is part of China's A2/AD (Anti-Access/Area Denial) strategy and is considered a central element of China's naval warfare strategy. The CaDA DF-21D model shows the multi-axle carrier vehicle with the missile tube mounted.
