The Original – the Black Pearl

The Black Pearl is the most iconic ship in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film series (from 2003) and the fastest pirate ship in the Caribbean – according to Jack Sparrow himself. Its inspiration comes from real historical pirate ships of the 17th and 18th centuries: heavy frigates and galleons with black hulls, dark sails, and an armament of up to 32 cannons. The black hull and sails without color were considered a sign of a ship under pirate command – a visual code that was feared even during the Golden Age of Piracy. The film ship Black Pearl became a cultural symbol for the romantic image of piracy.
