Description

The Mould King 12032 – Shay steam locomotive is a remote-controlled building-block model of the historic Shay steam locomotive. With 880 parts it builds into a 34.5 cm long, drivable model with LED headlight, RC drive and an oval track – designed by Marbleman.

The original – the Shay locomotive

The Shay locomotive is a special type of steam locomotive developed at the end of the 19th century by the American engineer Ephraim Shay. Its decisive feature is not a conventional driving-wheel drive, but a cylinder block mounted on the side, which drives all the wheels simultaneously via a drive-shaft system. This made the Shay suitable for very steep, winding routes and poor track – exactly what was needed in North American forestry and mining. It was slower than express steam locomotives but more reliable on difficult terrain. Over 3,000 examples were built between 1880 and 1945.

The model – Mould King 12032

The Mould King Shay model shows the characteristic asymmetrical shape of the Shay with the side cylinder block, the drive shafts and the unmistakable superstructure. The LED front headlight is built in. The model runs by remote control or smartphone app. Motors, battery box, remote control and an oval track are included in delivery.

Technical data

The Mould King 12032 Shay steam locomotive set comprises 880 parts made of ABS plastic. Motors, battery box, remote control and track included. Recommended for ages 14 and up.

Whether as a Shay locomotive model for railway fans or as a building-block steam locomotive for collectors – the Mould King 12032 is a running and richly detailed model of one of the most technically interesting steam locomotives in history.
