The original – the CH-47 Chinook

The Boeing CH-47 Chinook is one of the most famous heavy transport helicopters in the world. Its maiden flight took place in 1961, and it is still in service with numerous armed forces today. It is characterized by its tandem-rotor configuration with two counter-rotating main rotors – front and rear – which eliminates the need for a tail rotor and enables enormous carrying capacity. The Chinook transports troops, vehicles, artillery, and equipment, and is also used for rescue and disaster relief operations. With its elongated shape and two large rotors, it is one of the most distinctive helicopters ever.
