Description

The Wange 5225 – Colosseum is an architectural building block model of the famous Colosseum in Rome. With 1,758 parts, it creates a detailed display model of the ancient amphitheater with arches, column orders, and the characteristic elliptical facade – as a static collector's item.

The Original – The Colosseum in Rome

The Colosseum (Latin: Amphitheatrum Flavium) is the largest preserved amphitheater of antiquity and one of the most famous structures in the world. It is located in the center of Rome and was inaugurated in 80 AD under Emperor Titus, after construction had begun under Emperor Vespasian. The Colosseum could hold an estimated 50,000 to 80,000 spectators who watched gladiatorial contests, animal hunts, and other spectacles there. The elliptical structure is 188 meters long, 156 meters wide, and 48 meters high. The facade is divided into three stories with arches and half-columns in the ancient Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian orders. Despite earthquake damage, stone plundering, and centuries of decay, the Colosseum is today the quintessential symbol of Rome and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980. It is counted among the New Seven Wonders of the World.

The Model – Wange 5225

The Wange model shows the characteristic elliptical exterior facade of the Colosseum with its tiered arcade arches, column orders, and the elevated attic story. The model is designed as a static display model. Recommended for ages 6 and up.
